When writing a major academic paper, remember to be vigilant about your citations. When in doubt, cite! Many learn MLA (Modern Language Association) citations in high school, but colleges prefer that you cite using the APA (American Psychological Association) style–be certain you know with which you are required to work!

Often there are common homophones that people misspell because a word processing spell check doesn’t mark it as a mistake. Always proofread! For example, weather refers to the state of atmosphere (temperature, etc) and whether is used to introduce alternatives (ex. She couldn’t decide whether to stay or go).
