For those of you planning your finances, remember that Groupons and coupons can be extremely helpful – but only for items you were already planning to purchase.  Sure that makeover was half its regular price, but you just bought a makeover that isn’t in your budget.

Rarely should you sell things on eBay as a way to get rid of old clutter. Either do it all all once (garage sale) or just give it all to charity. You’ve had those belongings for some time and never sold them, why would you get around to it now?

Don’t spend money you don’t have, but if you do, make sure you are planning effectively to repay the debt within three months. If you want to buy that fancy TV, go ahead – just be certain you spend less for the next three months to cover the cost.

Once you leave the academic year and have a job that doesn’t revolve around “semesters,” August can feel hot, sweaty, and dull. Use the start-of-the-school-year time frame to jump start a big project so that you have something to look forward to when summer ends!
